RESEARCH

Album covers with 3D elements

Ideas:

Figma board – Just putting some ideas down and some imagery, I want to do an arrangement for photography rather than making something as such to try recreate how it would have been on their night out.

This cover is from Fine time, capturing the spirit of drug-fuelled club nights of 1988, heavily influencing the album, with pharmaceuticals appearing with different patterns across across each format. For my band I want the imagery to be of their night out fuelling them with the night pub crawls, with the aftermath of the next few hours will the morning to try capture that energy.

Canadian pop surrealist Stephen Gibb, I was looking at something slightly more chaotic which is the energy which is want to bring to once I come to photograph, I want to have a bit all over the place but organised and arranged.

THUMBNAIL/SKETCHES

EXPERIMENT

I did a quick set up, before the actual photoshoot so I was able to visualise slightly more how the images would turn out, these were not very good quality as they were took on my phone, I will be using a camera and a set up with some lights so that it is more focused.

DEVELOPMENT

Since I did not do it on the shoot, I ended up adding/making the logo/band name from ketchup as closely I could to the logo to match with the theme on food which I was going for. I did two separate ones. It was easier writing in ketchup that I thought it would.

COLOUR RANGE ON SELECTION

I was unsure about the placement of text, as I had quite a lot of empty space, I hadn’t added the logo as I was going to have it on the back instead of the front, but it worked a lot better when the band name was on the front. I decided to be quite obvious and have the bagel imagery for the LP.

Cropping (Final images I used)

I struggled when I was making them, as I wanted to give them more of a punk feel, but the photographs I took were quite strong and part of my 3D element and just arranging them around to find the right placement of them. Originally, from my thumbnails I was going to have a birds eye view and crop them, so they all run across as one image with the LP in the middle and the two singles on both sides. I took some closer shot ones, which were much stronger in composition so those are the images I went with.
