PROPER BOOZERS
PROJECT BRIEF:
Create a character to represent Proper Boozers and artwork suitable for merchandise capturing the nuances of British pub culture demonstrating an understanding of humour.
PARTNER PROJECT: IRENE & JACK
RESEARCH:
DAVID SHRIGLEY
I looked into Shrigely’s work as his work included humour and the style was similar to what we were going for. Looking into the text with the drawings and how it works.

MR GRIFF
I was looking at consistency between each of the character that Griff draws out which is what we needed, and for our style to be cohesive and approachable for this brief.

KEITH HARING
I liked how playful his work was, done in a fun way which is what we were aiming to achieve for our character.

IDEAS
Quick mind map of different ideas withIn pub culture, thinking different ideas that we could develop further.

RESEARCH
We went round different pubs to see what looked more proper and authentic. Some pubs had a variation of both older more pub like and more newer things that did not work as well.

INITIAL SKETCHES

DEVELOPMENT
Did some quicker sketches to then further develop on with our character Dukan.

Quick sketches for development, doing more movements and actions.

MEET DUNKAN
We used Dunkan as a play on words of drunken. We wanted to carry this on and play on pub sayings.
BOTTOMS UP!

He’s ‘PLASTERED’
We ended of scrapping ‘Plastered’ Dunkan off, for a particular reason..if you can see.

Development on Dunkan

Digitalising
This didn’t end up working as it wasnt as authentic and having the drawn ones scanned in gave more a rough around the edges and worked better.

Different variations, they didn’t work out as well as the drawn ones.
